2010 Summer - Day 2 thru 4
We spent Tuesday night at a Flying J truck stop just west of Knoxville, TN after driving about 500 miles. This leg of the trip so far was uneventful. We got up the next morning and after having breakfast we hit the road around 8:30. Late that afternoon on I-20 in Alabama we rain into a heavy rain storm and stopped at a rest area until it cleared. I wasn't worth the risk of continuing in those conditions.
We arrived at my cousin Lestine's, home in Florence, MS around 5:30PM.
She indeed had a power connection but my cable could not reach it. The next day we went to a RV store a bought an extension cord and that cured the problem. We spent a wonderful day recalling old times and having a outstanding catfish dinner. My cousin Cecil came from Jackson to visit as well and we all had a great time. The next time we plan to spend more time there!
The next morning we were off to our next one night stop-over in Dallas, TX. In route there we encountered the worst Interstate road section I have traveled, I-20 near the Louisiana and Texas border. I discovered that I had lost a hub cap once we stopped to refuel. We encountered another heavy rainstorm but it only lasted a few minutes. However, during that time we shaw three accidents on the eastbound side and the traffic was at a standstill for about seven miles! It was a good thing that we were going in the opposite direction.
Just a few days earlier, a friend of mine, Burl, found me on FaceBook. I told him about our trip and he asked if we were going through Dallas and I said yes. He and his wife Sally came out to the RV Park and took us out to dinner. It was really a lot of fun to reconnect with them and Thanks Burl and Sally for outstanding dinner!
On Saturday morning will be off to our first "real" stop, Santa Fe, New Mexico. We plan to spend a few days there to relax and sight-see.
