2010 Summer - Day 17 thru 19
Our drive from Monument Valley, UT to Williams, AZ took about four hours. Both vehicles were covered with red desert dust and could use a wash. Once we set up at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park we decided to go to downtown Williams for dinner. Williams was the last town in the country to have its Route 66 section bypassed by Interstate highway. We had a great char broiled burger at Cruiser's Cafe 66.
The next morning we headed to the train station for a ride to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. There was a staged cowboy shoot-out just before the train left the station. Once arriving in the park we took a bus tour to the rim. Nothing, I mean nothing can describe the awesome and spectacular view of the Grand Canyon. No still picture or video can convey the majesty of the view. The tour guide said that a tourist had fallen to their death last week and cautioned everyone about walking outside of the barriers. That was not going to be a problem for Iris - ok, for me either.
