2010 Summer - Day 14 thru 16
Our arrival to Monument Valley was as scheduled. The dirve into the area was just spectacular. It is located on the Navajo Nation. The area has a long history and I would encourage those interested in visiting the area to do a little research first so that when you see it in person the past may seem to come alive.
Here is a video I took of the Goulding's Campground where we are staying.
Many movies have been filmed here (see link) and I can see the reason why. We are staying at the Goulding's Lodge Campground. Harry Goulding established a trading post here in 1924 and brought this area to the attention of Hollywood.
We took a back country guided tour. Our tour guide, Alvin Cly, is a Navajo native and provided excellent commentary all along the way. He shared a great story about his uncle, John Wayne Cly. You may want to "Google" that name to see the information about his family reunion a few years ago.
After the tour I decided to go back on the trail with my Jeep so that I could take more pictures. Iris decided not to go. She wasn't that keen on going off road. I had a great time.
Below are some of the photos that I took. Tomorrow we will take it easy and prepare for our next move.
